The
Internet As An Advertising Tool
We
started our personal injury sites approximately 3 years ago and quite frankly
were ahead of the times ... the internet was simply not yet a good advertising
investment for most firms.
Times
have changed !
You
can now use the internet to generate top quality leads for you business
or use the leads to build a referral business with other lawyers.
Our
combined sites:
PersonalInjuryLawyersAtLaw.com
ThePersonalInjuryLawyers.com
Generate
6,000 unique visitors per month directly from top search engine rankings.
The "real" key to successful
internet advertising is to be found when someone is looking for an lawyer.
The way to do this
is through top search engine positions, Media Metrix
estimates that 84% of people looking for something on the internet use
one of the main search engines.
That
is where we come in ... we already have top rankings !
Understanding Search
Engines
Let me give you a
brief overview about search engines, so you can understand what a listing
on this site will and will not do for you.

Chart 1 - 12 Largest Search Engines

Key:
GG=Google, YH=Yahoo, MSN=MSN, AOL=AOL, AJ=Ask Jeeves
(includes Teoma), NS=Netscape, OVR=Overture (GoTo),
IS=InfoSpace, AV=AltaVista, LY=Lycos, LS=LookSmart,
ELINK=EarthLink.com
The above chart illustrates the top 12
internet search engines and directories by percentage of reach. This
is the percentage of internet users that access their search on a monthly
basis. As you can see by the chart the 4 biggest search engines
are Google, Yahoo, MSN, and AOL.
If your goal is to generate traffic from search engines these are the search
engines you need to focus on.
So ... How Do You Do It ?
You have 3 Basic Strategies
1. Paid Inclusions at Search Engines
2. Free Listings at Search Engines
3. Listings with Lawyer Sites Like
Our's
1. Paid Inclusion
The paid inclusion model consists of
paying for each visitor your receive on search terms you "bid" on. You
pick the phrases that match your business, and make a bid amount that you
agree to pay for each visitor that you receive. Your bid is compared
against everyone else bidding on that search phrase and that is the order
that the results are shown. Simply bid the most and your listing
is shown first.
Overture is the top Pay Per Click Search
Engine and their results are displayed on Yahoo and MSN of the Top 4 Search
Engines, and also displays sponsored results at Netscape, Alta Vista, Lycos,
and InfoSpace.
Google also has a Pay Per Click Program
and their results are displayed at Google and AOL. If you create
an account at Overture and at Google you will have the Top 4 Search Engines
Covered. The minimum bid at these programs is $0.05 per visitor,
however the popular search phrases can be as high as $10.00 or $15.00 per
visitor. (ie; "personal injury lawyer" top bid is $19.00).
The advantages of the paid inclusion
model is that it is very quick and can generate large amounts of traffic
for anyone operating a business on the internet. The disadvantages
are that it is fairly expensive and that you better have a good understanding
about your business or you can easily spend more than you are making from
the visitors.

2. Free Listings
Creating search engine traffic from FREE
listings involves creating search engine optimized pages, and then submitting
those pages to the search engines. Once the pages get listed in the
search engines database, results are returned based on a variety of factors
designed to identify the most relevant websites.
This is a process not an event, and the
process is called search engine positioning. We're not going to get
into the many factors involved but it is a difficult thing to accomplish.
The advantage of this strategy is that if successful the traffic you receive
does not have a charge per visitor. The disadvantages are that it
takes a long time before you start seeing results (if any) and that it
is again very difficult to do successfully.
